The Project Team

The Pecan Street Project is a research, development and demonstration collaboration between public, private, academic and NGO stakeholders.

It was launched by Austin Energy, the City of Austin, Environmental Defense Fund, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Texas’ Austin Technology Incubator — each of which is now represented on the board of directors of Pecan Street Project, Inc

The effort has also included generous support and assistance from several corporate partners.

Following the 2009 formation of Pecan Street Project, Inc., the organization added two important strategic and funding partners, the U.S. Department of Energy, through its $10.4 million demonstration grant and the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG), which is supporting the organization’s regional economic development goals.

The organization also created a Technical Review and Advisory Committee which will enable the sharing of knowledge and technology throughout the broader Central Texas region. The founding members of the Committee include the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT—the regional independent system operator) and three other public power providers, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Pedernales Electric Cooperative and City Public Service, the municipal utility of the City of San Antonio. Additional members will be added to the Committee based on the ultimate scope of the project.
